Rock The Kasbah, a small medina in Marseille

Rock The Kasbah, a small medina in Marseille

Hervé Hôte

After the calm banks of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgueis in the boiling district of Cours Julien in Marseille, that the mark Rock The Kasbah, born in Tunis, opens her second decoration concept store. A kind of bridge between the shores of the Mediterranean.

Fruit of the creativity of Parisian designer Philippe Xerri, Rock the Kasbah was born on January 3, 2011, in full revolution of jasmine. There is in the brand a very strong and modern energy - the "Rock" part - allied to a more traditional side - "the Kasbah". In his factory of La Soukra, supported by his partner Martial Viahero and surrounded by the finest craftsmen of the country, Philippe never ceased to reinterpret secular know-how in the light of his modern and offbeat vision.

In seven years since his guest house and showroom located in Tunis and his shop Sidi Bou Said, Philippe spreads histunisian spirit from hotels to private homes. And if, last year, the first shop of the creator was born in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, country of China and the flea market, its brand gets even closer, this year, our edges of the Mediterranean. Already present dotted in the Shopping area across the ephemeral shops by Laure TinelRock the Kasbah finally settles in the Phocaean city. And it's towards Cours Julien that a beautiful black window, a mysterious strand, reveals a secret universe, like kasbah hidden from the medina.

The spirit of Tunis is invited to Marseille

Upstairs, a private showroom unveils the house world by Philippe Xerri on request.

To penetrate Rock the Kasbah in Marseille, it is a little sinking in the souks of the medina of Tunis and there to discover, in chiaroscuro, the iconic pieces of the house. Armchairs "Zowie" in vintage kilim, raw furniture "Sticks" in olive branches, lampshades in fiber and legs in raw olive tree.

A first elongated space opens, at ceiling studded with braided fiber suspensions and lighting with olive-tree legs, huge wicker baskets and shelves where ethnic dishes are piled up, plaids and foutas, which remind us that here, the beach is never far away ... Further, a small inner courtyard way riad, cement tiles, fountain and whitewashed walls, overlooks a dark and intimate space, a "Souk" in which guess upholstered furniture vintage kilims, canapés in olive sticks, planks and other accessories fringed with alfa. And if the charming Garance invites you there, a staircase leads up to a small private showroom upstairs, a demonstration in wasabi tones of bohemian atmospheres that Philippe proposes to create to measure. The warmth of oriental hospitality is distilled, coupled with the invisible but palpable techniques of feng shui master Shiraz Gaieb, which intervenes in the heart of interiors Rock the Kasbah.
