Bohemian chic atmosphere at Hélène Gateau. For a year, the TV host has moved into a Haussmann apartment in the heart of Paris. Chaining the shifts for filming "Midi en France" on France 3 alongside Laurent Boyer, and France 5 for his show "Hélène et les animaux", she likes to find her Parisian den. Interview.
For Hélène Gateau, in love with old stones and old buildings, this first acquisition allowed her to create a small cocoon, even if she admits to dreaming of a life in the countryside. Before moving into this former medical practice where there were still dentists chairs, it was necessary to boning everything and remake from A to Z: remove the Haussmann parquet with small slats and rafters and replace it with a single floor, wide and long slats.
Only the moldings and a chimney have been preserved. False ceilings were created and especially priority was given by the hostess, the optimization of storage. Confidences of a messy who loves order.

Your favorite room where you like to be and spend time?
Hélène Gateau: I have two. The room, which is my den to recover from all my travels! And also the kitchen that has been designed as a living room, very warm with curtains and parquet. With two entrances, it is half open on the living room. The worktops are in black granite. The closet doors are made of wood, but everything is not hidden. We can see the robot, the teapot, etc. Around the central island, there are high fabric seats: you can meet up to six people.

A dish unexpectedly on the go for your friends? Your specialty?
Hélène Gateau: For lack of time, I order sushi, or I buy salmon and blinis. If I do not like cooking, I can make starters: soups or soups that vary in flavor, followed by a dish in sauce, a steamed fish or grilled lamb chops.
Your furniture: rather modern, ultra design, family, pitcher?
Hélène Gateau: It is a "bohemian soft" atmosphere, at the same time modern and warm with wood, ironwork, cotton linen ...
The most unusual or unexpected that can be discovered at home?
Hélène Gateau: The entrance all black, walls on the ceiling. It looks like a little box with some very colorful paintings. When you arrive in the off-white lounge: the creation of this contrast makes it gain in brightness.
An object or piece of furniture that you could not separate?
Hélène Gateau: My husband taught me a form of detachment from objects and furniture. The best proof, before we moved in, we sold all our furniture on "the right corner". I prefer custom storage to save space.
Your favorite color in your home?
Hélène Gateau: The light beige.
Your last purchase - useful or futile! - for the House ?
Hélène Gateau: A small upholstered linen armchair, old-fashioned, with slightly curved legs. It serves me to put my clothes in my room.

And the TV, which room?
Hélène Gateau: I had two lives. A first without the TV. Then I had one that I never lighted! Today working on TV and sharing my life with a producer, I look at it in an intelligent way. So, there are TVs everywhere. In the evening, animal documentaries on "National Geographic" or "Ushuaia". My husband is plugged into news channels while I need to escape. We also rent movies in VOD.
Do you live with music or rather in silence?
Hélène Gateau: When I'm alone, it's silence. With my husband, we leave the TV in the background ...
Rather candle or rather perfume of atmosphere?
Hélène Gateau: I really like candles but it darkens walls and curtains. So I opted for perfumes and false candles that make a perfect illusion.
Curtains, doors, shutters? What does it inspire you?
Hélène Gateau: I love curtains. Before, we had curtains to protect us from the neighborhood; in our new apartment, we put curtains that we close at night ... This ritual is a real pleasure.
What is on your bedside table?
Hélène Gateau: I chose a bedside table with drawers to hide everything. There is only the charger of my mobile phone that exceeds. I also have small shelves with women's magazines that I do not have time to read and store. When summer comes, I realize that I still have the winter numbers!
A deco trick or storage?
Hélène Gateau: To avoid making a living space, we integrated into the living room, a bench against the wall with a narrow table, like an alcove. We can meet up to 12 people! Another little tip, under the bench, there is a storage space with doors for table linen, boxes, etc. And the cupboards go up to the ceiling.

Do you dream of one more room? If so, for what purpose?
Hélène Gateau: A small room with sports equipment: bike, exercise mat, etc.
Rather orderly or messy?
Hélène Gateau: I am a mess that is not seen!
Are you green plants, flowers, balcony, terrace, garden?
Hélène Gateau: We have a small balcony with big boxwood balls. No green plants inside but I like having bouquets of flowers, especially when I get friends.
Your addresses or favorite brands for the home (shopping, decoration, florist, etc.)?
- Caravan: I found beautiful sheets of linen, plaids that I put carelessly on my couch, plates and my famous false candles.
- Craftsmen I discovered in the context of the show "Midi en France" give me the opportunity to buy small pleasures "made in France".
- My florist Eric Abtan: he makes bouquets of crazy and brightens my apartment with heart (see the bouquet on the dining table, photo above). Eric Abtan - 47, rue de Ponthieu - 75008 Paris.
