Where does Carole Tolila, the presenter of France 5 live?
Christophe Fillieule / Fabrik for FTV
Carole Tolila, the former expert of the "Do It Yourself" kindergartens, joined in September 2016, Stéphane Marie in "Silence it grows !"Home interview punctuated with small deco tips.
How to reconcile a hectic working life with a family life? The solution was imposed on Carole and her husband Thomas Isle, the host of La Quotidienne, by moving! Having to rent when they were owners, was the paradox they faced in 2013. Parents of a boy, they lived in a cocoon apartment of the eighteenth arrondissement of Paris but the distance from their place of work became unmanageable in logistics. They then favored proximity.

By choosing to live in Boulogne-Billancourt, they can ride their bike. Since then, the family has grown with the birth of Thelma in February 2016. Even if today they feel a little cramped, they are not resolved to leave their apartment, located on the second floor of a small building.

Did you have selection criteria when visiting apartments?
Carole Tolila: The orientation and especially I wanted a crossing apartment to have as much light as possible. It overlooks a quiet street on one side and the neighbors' gardens on the other.
Your favorite room?
Carole Tolila: The living room: this is the room where we all live. There is a beautiful light because it is oriented Southwest. From my couch, I can watch my children. The funny thing is that without my husband and I, we bought each one of our own, a photo of the 60's at Yellow Korner where we find a lake in one, and a pool in the other. They are side by side above the fireplace.

Your furniture: rather modern, ultra design, family, pitcher?
Carole Tolila: It's Scandinavian furniture: there's green water furniture and a little gray vintage sofa with mustard cushions. But I'm changing and I'm getting tired of it. Initially, we chose these furniture with rounded lines for children ... In the center, there is a black and white graphic carpet from Ikea but we also saw too much and I want to change! It's my quest for the moment.
Do you consider yourself a bargain hunter?
Carole Tolila: Yes, late. In fact, I chine only small objects but for the furniture, I buy new! In fact, I like the old design and I prefer reissues and furniture that have a small retro look.
The most unusual or unexpected that can be discovered at home?
Carole Tolila: The shoe cabinet that is in the living room! It is an atypical piece: a Scandinavian hickory buffet, completely sanded and repainted which we chose colors and feet. It is linked to a beautiful meeting: we had sympathized with the couple of artists from the small workshop where I found it - and the young woman was pregnant like me. The specialty of their workshop (the Bulle workshop) is to hunt and divert furniture on demand; since then, they have also created their own collection.

An object or piece of furniture that you could not separate?
Carole Tolila: Our office. We had just met and we were looking for a table at the flea market in Saint-Ouen but everything was too expensive. It is outside that we spotted an abandoned pallet, intoxicated by the rain and the sun. This patinated dark gray wood pleased me. We negotiated it with the person from the workshop. We added metal Ikea feet and since then, this office has always followed us. Another piece with a true family dimension: an antique piece of furniture that we could afford with the money that Thomas's grandmother had given us for our wedding. We are very attached to it.
Your favorite color in your home?
Carole Tolila: Even if I dream of colors, all the walls are white. White brings the soothing side I need.
Your last purchase - useful or futile! - for the House ?
Carole Tolila: I just bought a coffee table! I struggled to find a model with rounded edges for children and that sort of ordinary. I am rather happy with the one I found on AM.PM black marble. What I'm passionate about is having encounters with objects. In Paris, it's expensive to hunt. I am looking for useful objects that are not ugly. My interior is never finalized, I feel like taking an infinite time to furnish because I'm looking for the perfect piece or object.
The kitchen, rather open or closed?
Carole Tolila: Closed! I came back from the open kitchens. Now, I no longer suffer the pressure of storage. It is very large and contiguous to the living room, so it does not cut me on the friendly side. On the other hand, all that is mess is hidden. In addition, it is atypical because I devoted a creative part. I have my little DIY workshop: a table with my equipment, a copper lamp, an ottoman and small cushions. My son comes regularly to get pens and I also made him his little "kitchen corner".
A dish unexpectedly on the go for your friends? Your specialty?
Carole Tolila: I love to receive but I'm bad at cooking! It will be a good aperitif dinner with simple things, tapas style that we take on the coffee table near the fireplace! Daily, we dine on the living room table: there are high chairs for children.
And the TV, which room?
Carole Tolila: In the living room and in the bedroom, we watch it on the computer! The TV furniture is worse than the coffee tables to find! We hijacked a console. Little, I was deprived of TV but today it is my job as that of my husband so I look without guilt! We are hooked on Netflix, the historical series - the series of the moment that I love is "Narcos" on the narco-traffickers - as well as the new concepts of emission.
Do you live with music or rather in silence?
Carole Tolila: Rather in music or sometimes with the TV in the background. We have a cabinet-speaker of the brand "Concept Box": the speakers melt into the furniture. For lack of space, I no longer have a CD: everything is dematerialized!
What ranking for books?
Carole Tolila: I try to classify them by edition but I am not monomaniac! There is a little everywhere: part in a niche; the paperbacks are on the reissue of a String shelf. All my beautiful books are in the fireplace (which we do not use) and also below the TV cabinet: they can hide boxes and son. I put a lot of them in the bedside tables. In the children's room, I installed Ikea's small spice racks to store their books, but they also have them in the living room, on the bottom shelf.

Rather candle or rather perfume of atmosphere?
Carole Tolila: Most often, I prefer that there is a neutral atmosphere. I love however vanilla figs perfume from Anthropologie: an English brand that can be purchased online.
Curtains, doors, shutters: what does it inspire you?
Carole Tolila: There are beige linen curtains in the living room; in the bedroom, I opted for reversible woolen curtains, gray and white, that I change according to my mood. Those of the children's room are in denim.
What is on your bedside table?
Carole Tolila: Many things ! The night table is used to store my books, my notebooks and small treasures (ribbons, small photos ...). I put the bottles of the night and pictures of my children. Practical detail, I chose a bedside lamp which I can adjust the intensity.
A deco trick or storage?
Carole Tolila: I created several areas of photos with masking tape, this decorative ribbon of solid color or with patterns. I hung polaroids in the room; in the entrance, retro photos. It is very practical to renew its decoration.

Do you dream of one more room? If so, for what purpose?
Carole Tolila: I would like a larger living room or if not a terrace. I am Mediterranean so I like living outdoors!
Rather orderly or messy?
Carole Tolila: It is difficult to be organized with children but I spend a lot of time putting away because in a small space you have to be organized.
Are you green plants, flowers, balcony, terrace, garden?
Carole Tolila: No because I have no terrace and inside, I lack of space. I take advantage of Stéphane's garden during our shootings. I like making small bouquets and I discovered paper flowers! If Thomas never gives me flowers, my son, pick me daisies!
